Instructions for translators

Thanks for helping to translate CENO!

To get started:

  1. Make an account on Weblate or sign in with your Github or Gitlab ID. Note: Account creation is not required, but you will only be able to suggest translations in this case

  2. Visit the Censorship.no project page - which lists all components and their strings (including Android app strings, the web browser extension, the User Manual and the website).

  3. On the Censorship.no project page's 'Languages' tab, choose the language you want to work on, or -- in case the language doesn't exist yet -- initiate a new language by selecting a component from the main project page and clicking on the "Start a new translation" button. Please note that we can't support shipping arbitrary translations with our published materials unless they have a reviewer (see below).

  4. Please contact the CENO team at cenoers AT equalit DOT ie if you are interested in becoming a reviewer for translation(s) in your language(s).

  5. If you plan to translate the User Manual, please get acquainted with Markdown first (e.g. with this cheatsheet).

In <strong>Public</strong> mode, Ceno will look into the BitTorrent network to see if another Ceno user has recently shared the requested page. If the service can identify the requested page, it will retrieve that page from another user’s device. If the content is not available, Ceno will contact several Injectors to request that website and have it delivered to you.
Nella modalità <strong>Public</strong>, Ceno cercherà nella rete BitTorrent per vede se un altro utente Ceno ha condiviso la pagina richiesta. When a website is not accessible due to network filtering/censorship, Ceno will attempt to get the content for you. How Ceno attempts to find content depends on whether you have chosen to use Ceno in <strong>Public</strong> or <strong>Personal</strong> mode.

**Cheaper browsing:** Content popular in a particular region tends to get copied in Ceno/Ouinet clients in that region, even if the origin server is abroad. If you are interested in that content, your client will probably get it from some other client in your region. In some countries where international traffic is more expensive than local one (e.g. in the presence of a [national intranet][National intranet]), this can actually save you money.

**Faster browsing:** Since your client can retrieve different parts of the same content from various clients at the same time, the load of delivering the content is distributed among different networks and devices, thus avoiding clogging the paths to a single client (especially when delivering a big resource like a video). This is not only useful when infrastructure connecting to other countries is limited, but also for publishers to avoid resource usage spikes at origin servers when some of their content becomes very popular (the so-called [Slashdot effect][Slashdot effect]).
**Ricerca più veloce:** Dato che il tuo client può ricevere parti diverse dello stesso contenuto da vari client contemporaneamente, il contenuto viene diviso in parti diverse e distribuito tra varie connessioni e dispositivi, evitando quindi di intasare il percoso di un singolo client (specialmente quando viene inviata una risorsa grande come un video).
